TRACER - Chanelled Agression EP (1983) UK

MOUSEHOLE RECORDS
Compared with the semi-success achieved by LEGEND, the other NWOBHM-period band from the Channel Island ultimately failed to make themselves known further afield, one of Jersey's minor contenders being the little-remembered TRACER, whose "Chanelled Agression" three-tracks EP represents a major-league rarity.

TOO MUCH - Who You Wanna Be 7'' (1978) UK

LIGHTNING RECORDS
More borderline punk/metal material comes courtesy of TOO MUCH, whose two 7" releases on the eclectic Lightning label appear to have been adopted as genuine NWOBHM by many, although the band themselves would have denied being remotely 'metal' at the time.
TRACKS:
1. Who You Wanna Be
2. Another Time Another Place

V/A - METAL WARRIORS (1983) UK

EBONY RECORDS
Ebony Records was one of the classic minor-league labels of the NWOBHM time, focusing on up-and-coming mid-eighties bands mostly from the UK, though a few Euro bands crept in as well. Similar to labels such as Metal Blade, Ebony started out releasing compilations of unsigned acts, a few of which went on to record albums with the label (one notable band that did appear on a comp but later went on to bigger things on another label was Mercyful Fate).
Many of the releases were produced in-house by label founder Darryl Johnston, giving several of the albums a similar low-budget style that nevertheless was part of the charm of the NWOBHM period.
A lot of the bands released one or two albums and never amounted to a lot, but there were a few gems in there, including Savage's classic Loose 'n' Lethal, while the biggest band to emerge from this label would almost certainly be Grim Reaper, who were snapped up by the major label RCA on their way to a successful worldwide career.

STREETFIGHTER - Crazy Game EP (1982) UK

Burnley's STREETFIGHTER is best noted for their ex-lead guitarist's exploits. JOHN SYKES left the band and joined TYGERS OF PAN TANG, THIN LIZZY and WHITESNAKE before inevitably going solo in ventures that have seen the creation of BLUE MURDER and a string of successful solo albums in Japan. In the wake of Sykes' departure STREETFIGHTER soldiered on by bringing in two replacement guitarists, Dave Senczek and Mick Kremoustoulis. When the band split Senczek created CANNES and guested on LEA HART's 1994 album 'Ready To Rumble'. Bassist Merv Goldsworthy teamed up with a covers band for a four month band residency in Khartoum, Africa of all places. A return to Britain saw him as a member of DIAMOND HEAD, SAMSON and slick AOR act FM. The band's sole legacy is this, 1982's "Crazy Game" EP, and a track, 'She's No Angel', on the 'New Electric Warriors' compilation album. Sykes has since recreated THIN LIZZY.

FIST - Turn The Hell On (1980) UK

MCA RECORDS
Tyneside, England's Fist was but one of many early-'80s bands associated with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Originally called Axe, vocalist/guitarist Keith Satchfield, guitarist Dave Irwin, bassist Dave Durey, and drummer Harry "Hiroshima" Hill first joined forces in April 1978, and by September had recorded their first single, entitled "S.S. Gyro." But the young band soon lost heart due to the unpopular state of hard rock and heavy metal at the time (punk was still ruling the country), temporarily breaking up before acquiring new bassist John Wylie and making a fresh start by changing their name to Fist.
The first 7" in 1980 "Name, Rank and Serial Number" would become one of the very first releases by local record label and legendary NWOBHM hotbed Neat Records. Championed by Sounds journalist Geoff Barton, among others, the single sold respectably enough for Fist and the other two bands cited above to be pawned off to major record company MCA as part of a three-band package deal. Another single, entitled "Forever Amber," soon followed, and come November Fist delivered its full-length debut, "Turn the Hell On", and headed out on the road with none other than British hard rock heavyweights UFO. www.myspace.com/fistnwobhm

SERGEANT - Doubt 7" (1982) SWE

Rare Swedish steel, the lone 1982 single from SERGEANT, "Doubt". The Corosseum describes it thus : "Doubt" is a very unique, very melancholic piece of early melodic Hard Rockin'. Pretty classy musicianship and songwriting skills here, definitely a grower and very far from happy-go-lucky AOR. It's however the B-side "Connection" that truly impresses. We're talking top-class, total NWOBHM-style HM/HR in the style of classics like TRESPASS, GEDDES AXE, ANGEL WITCH etc with some superb harmony soloing at the end.

BLACK SABBATH - 1969 Demo Acetates (1969) UK

In August 1969 BLACK SABBATH's manager Jim Simpson suggested that the band record 'The Rebel', a song written by Norman Haines (of the NORMAN HAINES BAND & LOCOMOTIVE). The session for "The Rebel", took place at Trident Studios in London. Haines also took part in this session, playing organ and piano. Two months later, the band recorded yet another Haines composition called 'When I Came Down'. "When I Came Down" was recorded at Zella Studios in Birmingham in October. The song is short but boasts strong vocals. It begins with a bluesy, pentatonic riff and although the guitar gets rather lost in the mix, the overall feel approximates to a slower take on "Evil Woman". According to Iommi, "We didn't write those songs. They were written by a chap named Norman Haines. At the time we were managed by Jim Simpson, who was a local Birmingham guy. He insisted that we record these songs.

MARSEILLE - Red, White and Slightly Blue (1978) UK

MOUNTAIN RECORDS
Marseille was a New Wave of British Heavy Metal band from Liverpool, England.
Marseille was formed in 1976, and released their debut album, Red, White and Slightly Blue on the label Mountain in 1978. Members included Paul Dale (vocals), Neil Buchanan (guitar), Andy Charters (guitar), Keith Knowles (drums) and Steve Dinwoodie (bass). Marseille were the first band to win Battle of the Bands. Marseille gathered a small fanbase while promoting their first album as support for other groups such as Judas Priest, Nazareth and UFO. Their debut, that suffered somewhat from lack in promotion and limitation of release, had very raunchy lyrics For the single, Kiss Like Rock 'n' Roll the band were produced by Nazareth guitarist Manny Charlton. Their second release, the eponymous Marseille, received airplay on local radio, extending their fanbase. However record company issues and disinterest in the band caused Marseille to split-up after their third and final release Touch The Night. The original line up reunited for a handful of gigs in 2008 but since then Paul Dale has left the band and has been replaced in February 2009 by Nigel Roberts and the band are currently working on new material as well as reworking old Marseille classics for future release and they plan to start gigging in Spring 2009.

MORBID SAINT - Spectrum Of Death (1988) USA

AVANZADA METALLICA RECORDS
This amazing and underrated album, is a classic piece of extreme thrash metal.
"Spectrum Of Death" was released in 1989 on a small Mexican label, Avanzada Metallica, and was issued in 1991 through Grind Core.
'Spectrum of Death' was produced by Eric Greif, who was also the manager of Chuck Schuldiner & Death (1988-92). Morbid Saint was a favorite opener for Death during those days, culminating in the infamous Metalfest 12/89 featuring Death, Acrophet and Morbid Saint. 'Spectrum of Death' was recorded at Opus Recording (later known as Wave Digital once they removed the beloved 2'' tape machines in favour of inferior Akai Digital Audio Machines) in Gurnee, Illinois. DARKNESS - Death Squad (1987) GER

GAMA RECORDS
Formed in 1984 in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, this is excellent German thrash band Darkness, not to be confused with the other Darkness (Ger) from Ludwigshafen. Their LP' debut, 'Death Squad' originally released in 1987, this album is a must for fans of "kraut" Speed/Thrash Metal bands like Destruction, Kreator and Exumer. Darkness now have the status of “cult band” but back in that period their fate was a bit too bad with them. They were great thrashers, that didn’t fear more famous bands in their land. They had that savage impact that, with some melodic lines, was perfect in their thrash/speed metal. Re-released and remastered on CD by Battle Cry Records in 2005 with bonus tracks.

GASKIN - End Of The World (1981) UK

RONDOLET RECORDS
Gaskin came to the masses as an NWOBHM band with more technicality and proficiency than average. The act was formed in March, 1980 with Paul Gaskin on guitars and vocals, Dave Norman on drums and Stef Prokopczuk on bass. The band's April, 1980 demo featured the songs Sweet Dream Maker, Despiser, End Of The World and I'm No Fool and was recorded at Fairview studio in Hull. Through the demo's engineer Ron Neave, who had worked with Witchfynde, the band got in contact with Witchfynde's label Rondelet on the same weekend as the recording. Gaskin supposedly rejected the label at first before returning after a year's worth of searching for an alternative. During that period the band opened for Girlschool, Vardis and Wishbone Ash. As well, famed metal DJ Neal Kay got in touch with the band and the demo soon became a regular at the Bandwagon HM charts. The same DJ suggested that the band back away away from its record deal and obtain a dedicated frontman. One of the people auditioned was Steve Mills of Trespass. In April, 1981 the band issued a single - culled from the demo - featuring I'm No Fool and Sweet Dream. The band's debut was recorded and released in 1981 "End Of The World" with the band disliking the production obtained at Fairview. Very soon the band tried another singer, called Mick Clarke, and spent time at Enids studio for a weekend in order to record several new tracks. At this point, a major split occurs with Stef and Mick venturing off to their own band, Ace Lane. Bassist Baggy is recruited soon thereafter. Gaskin recorded its second album in April, 1982 at Enids studio in Suffolk. GaskinMySpace.

PREDATOR - Don't Stop 7" (1985) UK

C.T.M. RECORDS
PREDATOR MySpace Page.

HEAVY PETTIN - Lettin Loose (1983) UK

POLYDOR RECORDS
The roots of Heavy Pettin' lie in Weeper, a regrettably named Glasgow pub metal band formed in 1975. Their ranks included guitarist Gordon Bonnar bassist Brian Waugh and drummer Gary Moat. When this trio met singer Stevie 'Hamie' Hayman and guitarist Punky Mendoza six years later, Heavy Pettin' were born. The quintet's timing was impeccable. The summer of 1981 was a good time to be a hard rock heavy metal band, and Heavy Pettin' very quickly found themselves caught up in the tail end of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. That said, their American-orientated sound and image was a good deal more polished than that of Iron Maiden and their ilk. "We listen to Saxon and Def Leppard rather than Black Sabbath and Deep Purple." Bonnar later told Sounds magazine. "We've alway been into heavy metal, starting off with Thin Lizzy." Hamie was quick to own up to the band's US flavour in the same interview acknowledging the influence of bands like Aerosmith. "They're more melodic, and I like the way they look," he told later Dave Roberts, while Brian Waugh cut to the chase by declaring: "We don't like the blatant and fast heavy metal that's coming out now." Young (their average age was just 20), gifted, ambitious and not exactly shy, Pettin' saw their opportunity and wasted little time grasping it. Within mere months of their formation, Kerrang!'s Geoff Barton was praising a demo consprising the tracks 'Love Xs Love', 'Speed Kills' and 'Hell is Beautiful' that the band had recorded in just 18 hours. It secured them a single deal with independent label Neat Records, home of Venom, the Tygers Of Pan Tang and Fist. 'Roll The Dice' b/w 'Love Xs Love' won them acclaim from all over the world. However, with reams of positive press cuttings in hand, the band were already thinking of bigger things, turning down all offers from Neat to record a full-length album.

1. In And Out Of Love 03:50
2. Broken Heart 04:08
3. Love On The Run 04:00

The original title for the instrumental song "Acoustics" is "Cry of the Banshee" and has been changed by the pressing plant of the CD for unknown reasons. Also re-released on vinyl 2005, by Black Widow Records, with a different artwork and under the name of Judgement of the Dead, which was to be the original title for Volume 1. This version also comes with a bonus track, "March of the Dead (first version)" (3:55) Black Widow LP-Version is released as a normal black vinyl version with a biography book and printed innersleeve and as a collector's edition of 300 red LPs (also with the book and printed innersleeve), handnumbered on a small cardboard.
