This is where the party really started! From the instant the brilliant "Sole Survivor" hits the speakers you know you've found a golden nugget. The most perfectly excecuted verses ever are then heard in "Take Me On Your Wings". "Best of Me" is a great ballad, "Dancin' on the Edge" is melodic bliss and every other track after and inbetween is a great melodic rocker. "Tush" is ordinary and very different from the rest of the material, but this is truly an excellent album.

Dal paese dei balocchi (secondo me), il paese della canna libera (beati loro), insomma dall' Olanda arriva questo fantastico ed oscuro gioiellino di traditional heavy metal. Il gruppo composto da quattro membri si forma nel lontano 1979 a Emmen, Drenthe e si scioglierà attorno al 1984. Nella loro carriera oltre a 3 demo realizzati nel 1983, questo full-length è il loro unico disco rilasciato e in questo post troviamo l' edizione con ben 9 bonus tracks che poi sono i demo antecedenti a questo album, quindi si pùo avere tutta la loro discografia in un unico, grande disco. Il loro Heavy Metal ha un sapore molto epico.

Il debutto dei WATCHTOWER, un gruppo formatosi nel 1982 in Austin, Texas, "Energetic Disassembly" è generalmente considerato come responsabile di uno sviluppo del progressive metal. L'album è pieno di complessi cambiamenti di tempo, assoli impressionanti. Il disco rimane di difficile ascolto, non solo per la complessità della musica e del cantato, ma soprattutto perchè, la produzione del disco, fatto dalla casa discografica Zombo Records è inferiore rispetto alla media. Intorno ai giorni di uscita di questo full-length, nel 1986, la band è cresciuta di popolarità grazie soprattutto alla vendita e allo scambio di copie di cassette tra i fans e i metallari. Ironia della sorte, un decennio più tardi, nel 1993 il disco è stato ristampato e rimasterizzato in CD dalla Institute of Art Records, grazie ancora una volta allo scambio... questa volta sotto forma di mp3 su Internet.

SAVAGE GRACE - After The Fall From Grace (1986) USA

BLACK DRAGON RECORDS
More of an approach to their first release but this one is more complex and very variated. Their Drums-Bass combiantion of Master of Disguise is not as sound as before, but still very fast, and with that great guitar work of Logue. The vocals were also alike, but the music was more complex, some changes had occured only Logue and East remained from the original band. These album has more changes in the style than the rest song 2 is fast like in their last album but song 3 has a different rhythm. Some songs sound like battle themes specially A call to Arms and the beggining of Trial by Fire. Trial by Fire at the beggining sounds more like speed thrash with satanic lyrics but the music changes much. Age of Innocence is another great song, composed by B. East, makes those changes in the chorus with the drums that are so characteristic of Savage Grace. I would also say that some of their music might sound like Omen mainly in the first one, due to Powell. The band is Fast paced and melodic standing strong on their melodies.

TYTAN - Blind Men and Fools EP (1983) UK

Tytan's initial claim to fame was featuring what was, until recently, the rhythm section of New Wave of British Heavy Metal stars Angel Witch; but their first EP, Blind Men and Fools, already proved the band's intention of pursuing a more commercial hard rock style of its own. Greatly dependent on the powerful and melodic voice of frontman Kal Swan, these aspirations were immediately made possible by the extremely accessible title song, while additional tracks like the energetic "Ballad of Edward Case" and the prog-leaning "Sadman" gave further evidence of Tytan's creative range to be showcased more extensively on their subsequent album, Rough Justice. The REALM, a group of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was formed in 1985. In 1985 and 1986, issued two demos on audio cassette. In 1988 he signed a contract with Roadrunner Records and release a single with a cover of The Beatles: Eleanor Rigby... the song is included in their full-length album debut, "Endless War", released that same year. After two years, in 1990, release their second and last full-length album titled "Suiciety", a very technical futuristic thrash, with inserts strongly progressive. I just bought the latest beautiful edition, reissued in 2006 by Metal Mind and Roadrunner as a digipack, limited to 2000 sequentially numbered copies, gold disc CD with a bonus track from the 1992 demo/unreleased.

JAG PANZER - Ample Destruction (1984) USA

Favolosa e portentosa band formatasi in Colorado Springs, nel Colorado attorno al 1981. Originariamente la band si chiamava TYRANT, ma trovano l'ispirazione grazie ad un libro sulla II guerra mondiale, così si decide il cambio di monicker della band in JAG PANZER proprio come il nome di un carro armato dell'esercito tedesco "Jagdpanzer". Dopo un EP ed un singolo nel 1983, l'anno seguente il gruppo sotto contratto con la Azra Records rilascia il loro primo full-length "Ample Destruction". Un album che dire capolavoro è il minimo, un esempio di purissimo speed/power metal da veri maestri, semplicemente fantastico dalla prima all'ultima nota. Nel 2001 l'album fu ri-remasterizzato dalla No Posers in CD con l'aggiunta delle canzoni tratte dal loro EP di esordio "Tyrant", davvero un'edizione da leccarsi le orecchie!.

Gruppo di Saint Louis nel Missouri conosciuto con il nome di ANACRUSIS, formatosi nel 1986. In quell' anno realizzano due demo, che i metallari del posto accolgono molto favorevolmente e questo spinge il gruppo a scrivere un album vero e proprio, un full-length. Due anni dopo, nel 1988, se ne escono con questa bordata di album!
Realizzano il loro capolavoro "Suffering Hour", un album che finalmente suona diverso dal solito thrash metal di stampo americano che ormai si trova agli sgoccioli.
Un CD che stupisce riff dopo riff e canzone dopo canzone. La musica é uno speed/thrash dall' attitudine doom/progressive e il cantato originale del vocalist stile pazzoide.
Una botta di disco!

In the aftermath of the Misfits break up in 1983, Jerry Only, then known as Mo The Great, and his brother Doyle formed KRYST THE CONQUEROR in 1987. The band never had a lead singer and never toured. They hired Jeff Scott Soto (then of Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force) to do the vocals for their album. After Dr. Chud joined the band, Jerry and Doyle reformed The Misfits in 1995. KRYST THE CONQUEROR was an American Metal project formed in August of 1987 by two former members of the horror punk band, The Misfits. The project was led by bassist Jerry Only, who adopted a new stage name, "Mo The Great" (or alternately, "Mocavious Kryst"), and his younger brother, guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein. The band fused fantastical and sci-fi imagery with religious themes and messages. The band has also been referred to as a "guitar shop project", as Only and Doyle constantly tweaked and refined their instruments throughout the band's existence, in an attempt to create what they felt would be the ultimate bass and guitar.
In 1988, they formed The Doyle Fan Club in order to promote the new project and stay in touch with fans of The Misfits. According to various interviews conducted at the time, and a series of fan club letters written by Jerry Only (as "Mo The Great") from 1988 to 1990, KRYST THE CONQUEROR was meant to be Only's vision of the "perfect" band. He hoped the "righteous" message of the band would reach out to fans, especially those who had followed former Misfits frontman, Glenn Danzig's post-Misfits career with the bands Samhain and Danzig - bands which Jerry felt were satanic, evil and possibly damaging to impressionable youths.
A full album, Deliver Us From Evil, was recorded, although it has never been officially released in its entirety. Instead, five of the album's tracks were released in 1990 as an EP for a special Christmas package. The band never had an official lead singer, although noted Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist, Jeff Scott Soto, was hired to record vocals for the album (as he was still under contract with Yngwie, he was billed on the EP as "Kryst the Conqueror"). Also, Dave "The Snake" Sabo did a guest guitar solo on the song "Spellbound." Though the band never played live, KRYST THE CONQUEROR survived as a non-active band until 1995, at which time Jerry and Doyle reached an out of court settlement with Glenn Danzig, granting them the rights to perform as The Misfits. KRYST THE CONQUEROR was then quickly revamped into what would become the second incarnation of The Misfits. Some KRYST THE CONQUEROR songs were eventually re-written into songs for the "resurrected" Misfits, the song "Dr. Phibes Rises Again", the track n° 13, appears on the Misfits' "Cuts From the Crypt" CD.

WHITE HEAT - Soldier Of Fortune 7" (1984) UK

UK based (London) act, not to be mistaken for the Dutch White Heat. This 7-incher is the only material captured on vinyl, and another, above average item that simply got lost in the mass production of independent releases in the early - mid 80´s. "Soldier Of Fortune" concerns an up-tempo Metal number with the root and feel of the original NWOBHM bands and the heavy, almost PowerMetal like edge of the second generation NWOBHM. The latter mostly comes off the guitar, adopting heavy style (rhythm) riffage and grainy feedbacking, alternated with more genuine NWOBHM leads. Song has got a most original theme, simulating an accelerated, military march, complete with "left-right" chant over its staccato drive. Additionally, there´s some nice guitarwork in its stretched solo that, original wise, has bits of Blackmore thrown in, nice twist. The largely contrasting "Love Maker" is a slow-paced, and rather basic Blues rooted HardRock / Metal number that is given the heavy finish by the crisp guitar and the snappy, razor sharp lead vocals. In all, an entertaining effort, that will make a welcome addition to any collection, if only for its titletrack. (review from: www.loudandlegendary.com one of the favs review'site).

Legendary British heavy metal band "Buffalo" helped lead the the new wave of heavy metal music in the early 1980's. Mick Priestley (guitar) formed "Buffalo" in 1978 in Lancashire, England with John Ralphs (vocals), Mike Bailey (guitar), Tom Reid (bass) and Pete West (drums). The band recorded their debut single "Battle Torn Heroes" / "Women Of The Night" for Heavy Metal Records in 1981. The band has recently released their first ever vinyl LP "Bones Of The Beast" which was limited to 500 copies worldwide.

1 - "Battle Torn Heroes" was written by band members Mick Priestley and John Ralphs and is a fast-tempo heavy metal rocker with good vocals from John Ralphs, driving bass, drums, hot guitar throughout including a sizzling solo.
2 - "Women Of The Night" also written by Priestley and Ralphs is a fire-breathing heavy metal rocker with gritty vocals, slaming bass, drums, stomping guitar with kick-ass solo.
